What do you do when a witness gets cold feet?

Trust is the biggest issue for witnesses. Testifying in a legal proceeding is the scariest.  It is our responsibility as investigators to earn the witnesses trust, if we can do that we can get them to the next step. What do you do when something happens along the way to scare them away–start over!  Go back to the basics, talk to them, reassure them and listen to them.  Witnesses are human beings who need to know that if they stay the course someone will be along side them in case they get scared.
