A Little Private Eye Trivia from Wikipedia

By Dawn Krantz-Watts · Comments (0)
Monday, March 2nd, 2009

In the U.S., the Pinkerton National Detective Agency was a private detective agency established in 1850 by Allan Pinkerton. Pinkerton had become famous when he foiled a plot to assassinate then President-Elect Abraham Lincoln. Pinkerton’s agents performed services which ranged from undercover investigations and detection of crimes to plant protection and armed security. It is sometimes claimed, probably with exaggeration, that at the height of its existence the Pinkerton National Detective Agency employed more agents than the United States Army. [1]

Pinkerton agents were also hired to track western outlaws Jesse James, the Reno brothers, and the Wild Bunch, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The Pinkerton agency’s logo, an eye embellished with the words “We Never Sleep,” inspired the term “private eye.”[4]

It was not until the prosperity of the 1920s that the private investigator became a person accessible to the average American. With the wealth of the 1920s and the expanding of the middle class came the need of middle America for private investigators.[5]

Final New Year Resolution Blog for 2009

By admin · Comments (0)
Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I have been pondering the concept of New Year Resolutions for the past few days. I have read several posts on this topic–some of which I have shared with you all.  I get the whole idea of wanting to start out the new year on a good note but what about ending the old year on a good note?  Why do we need a new year to do things that will improve our lives.

Did you know that losing wieght is the number one resolution made and then tossed.  It makes you wonder why we even bother. In the spirit of the new year I will post a few more fun resolutions for you to consider in the coming year.

  • Sleep in a tent or under the stars
  • Learn to horseback ride
  • Walk on the beach more often
  • Make ice cream from scratch
  • Earning own money
  • Getting a paperroute or first job – This was my job in college!
  • Going to the movies with Dad or Mom on a parent/date night
  • Learn a new language
  • Learn a new hobby, like photography or basket weaving
  • Go to the zoo or aquarium ….or BOTH!
  • Have a backwards day, start the day with supper, then end the day with breakfast!
  • Get a massage ( every month!)
  • Get flowers for yourself
  • Find an address to your favorite famous person and write them a letter. See if they write you back- Does anyone know Brett Favre's address I want to give him a pep talk.
  • Roast marshmallows over a bonfire in your backyard
  • Go on a breakfast picnic.
  • Take a bicycle trip.
  • Build a tree house or fort
  • Take a dance class
  • Go on a horse and buggy ride
  • Let your dog take you for a walk
  • Talk to the people in the elevator
  • Stick up for yourself especially to the bully who scares you

  • Stay in your jammies all day just because

  • Any of these could become contagious to your family or friends!

Sherlock Holmes and the Three Bears (By Mr. Sting)

By Mr. Sting · Comments (1)
Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I learned a while back (by watching Jeopardy) that Sherlock means fair haired.

Goldie Locks and Sherlock Holmes both had fair hair.

Goldie Locks through the powers of deduction determined which porridge was the right temperature, and which bed was the right size.

Sherlock Holmes used powers of deduction to determine the truth.

By admin · Comments (1)
Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Resolutions many times are hard to keep, because we over commit ourselves and the person we let down the most is ourselves. One way to avoid letting ourselves down and defeating the whole purpose of self-improvement is to set attainable goals. Not all resolutions should require work make some resolutions just for fun. Todays resolution is one I highly recommend.

Resolutions 2 – Laugh More

It really is the best medicine! Finding the good in life means knowing when you need a good laugh. It

New Years Resolutions

By admin · Comments (1)
Monday, December 29th, 2008

Every year I make the usual resolutions in my head; lose weight, get healthy, become more organized etc etc. Some times I keep them sometimes I don't. In general I make it a practice all year long to try and improve my life but for some reason we all put a special focus on New Years. I am going to post for the remainder of this week posts specifically related to resolutions.  Unique or inspiring you be the judge.

Resolution 1 - Pay It Forward

A surprising way to help yourself is to help someone else. You can work more miracles in your own life, simply by helping someone else. And there are plenty of people in need.

What if you don't have the time or resources to spare? Don't worry about it – you can make this as easy and unobtrusive as you like.

Make a new resolution to simply smile at a stranger at least once every day. A smile can go a long ways, passing from person to person and warming the hearts and souls of potentially millions of people.

But if you do want to do more, and really see the difference you're making, go for the gusto.

Volunteer at your local shelter or soup kitchen. Buy a bagged lunch and hand it out to a homeless person. Go through all those old clothes, shoes, coats, hats and scarves in your closet and bag them up for your local Goodwill or Salvation Army.

If you have the time, patience and desire to do more, sign up to become a Big Sister or Big Brother. You can make a world of difference in a child's life, which is an investment in everyone's future.

Thanksgiving Day Factoids

By admin · Comments (0)
Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The voyage of the Mayflower is import because the journey ultimately resulted in our first Thanksgiving

The 1620 voyage from England to America was more than 3,000 miles and beset by autumn storms.

Our national holiday really stems from the feast held in the autumn of 1621 by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag to celebrate the colony's first successful harvest.

The English colonists we call Pilgrims celebrated days of thanksgiving as part of their religion. But these were days of prayer, not days of feasting.

Be thankful we have this day!!!!!

Tonight was a great night because I accepted three new cases and the JETS beat the Patriots in overtime 34 to 31.
